There are forty municipalities in Dauphin County. Harrisburg is the only incorporated city in Dauphin County. The County consists of sixteen boroughs including Berrysburg, Dauphin, Elizabethville, Gratz, Halifax, Highspire, Hummelstown, Lykens, Middletown, Millersburg, Paxtang, Penbrook, Pillow, Royaltown, Steelton and Williamstown. There are twenty-three townships including Conewago, Derry, East Hanover, Halifax, Jackson, Jefferson, Londonderry, Lower Paxton, Lower Swatara, Lykens, Middle Paxton, Mifflin, Reed, Rush, South Hanover, Susquehanna, Swatara, Upper Paxton, Washington, Wayne, West Hanover, Wiconisco Township, and Williams Township.

Major highways running through Dauphin County include Interstate 76, Interstate 81, Interstate 83, and Interstate 283. U.S. Routes 11, 15, 322, and 422 also run through the County.

The Dauphin County Courthouse is located at 101 Market Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17101. The Judges currently serving on the bench are President Judge Todd A. Hoover, and Judges Richard A. Lewis, Jeannine Turgeon, Scott Arthur Evans, Lawrence F. Clark, Jr., John F. Cherry, Bruce F. Bratton, Deborah Essis Curcillo, Bernard L. Coates, Jr., and Andrew H. Dowling.

Workers’ compensation claimants who reside in Dauphin County must attend workers’ compensation hearings in Harrisburg at East Gate Center at 1010 North 7th Street, Room 319, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17102. As of April 2010, workers’ compensation petitions filed by Dauphin County residents were assigned to Workers’ Compensation Judges Charles Clark, Wayne Dietrich, and David Weyl.
