TEXTING & DRIVING
PA Texting & Driving Accident Attorneys, Freeburn Hamilton
Texting and Driving has become a rising epidemic throughout the United States. In 2015 3,477 people were killed and 391,000 were injured in accidents involving distracted drivers.
One of the leading causes of distracted driving accidents involve cell phones – an estimated 660,000 drivers use their cell phones while driving each day. When you send or read a text while driving it takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds – at 55mph that is the same as driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed!
Those who chose to text while driving are 23 times more likely to be involved in car crash – typically happening 3 seconds after a driver becomes distracted.
In Pennsylvania the texting-while-driving ban was put in place prohibiting, “any driver from using an Interactive Wireless Communication Device (IWCD) to send, read or write a text based communication while his or her vehicle is in motion.”
The penalty associated with this ban includes a $50 fine, court coast and other fees associated. No points will be added as a penalty and are not recorded on the driver’s record – unless you are a commercial driver.
